The Metro in Dubai offers a cost-effective way to travel around the UAE’s most populous city without the hassle of getting a taxi. After investing around AED 28 billion in the Metro in 2005, Dubai now boasts probably the best public transport system in the Middle East. There is over 75 kms of track winding across the city and every day it’s anticipated that the completely driver-less system transports over 1.2 million people. Here is all you need to know about Using the Dubai Metro card Travelling on the Metro requires you to use a NoI card, which means ‘fare’ in Arabic. These are automated cards that passengers use to enter and exit stations. A NoI card also allows you to travel around Dubai on some buses and water buses as well as on the Metro. There are four different types of NoI cards: Red – a paper ticket that you load with up to 10 different trips which only lasts up to 90 days before expiring. It costs AED 2. Silver – a card you can load up to AED 500 on. It costs AED 20 but includes AED 14 pre-loaded. Silver card holders enjoy 20% cheaper fares than those with Red. This is the best option for tourists.
